Join us for our journey to the beautiful coast line of Kerala to celebrate Holi, also known as the Festival of Color or Festival of Love.
Led by Rebeccah Bartlett, this retreat allows for volunteering with children inside of one of Kerala's local disabled children home. There are many migrant fisherman in this region and they come with their families from poor regions for work. Since Kerala has more financial stability than other parts of India some fisherman abandon their children if they are disabled here in dreams of a better future for them and we will be learning about the possibilities for these children, their daily lives and become an active part of supporting their future by working within a school that has been a long time support system with in this area. Areas of volunteer work will be based on your own life experience and personal interests. From yoga and art, to language and computer skills, you will be free to create your own unique, teacher-student experience with the children of Cottelengo School in Kerala.
As one of Yogamour's Co-Founders, Beccah has been leading retreats in India for the past 8 years . Learn more about Beccah here.
After 10 years of Yogamour working within special schools and communities we've been able to create volunteer projects where In just one of week, you will not only leave behind a positive impact on a wonderful, deserving community, but develop memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. This year we will be doing some community development work by sitting down and to have some creative planning sessions for the school and to help them better strategize for their future and to help support each voice being herd. We will also do some general repairs around the school so weather you like to work with your hands, or you enjoy organizational or you are just looking to lead with your heart there is plenty for everyone to do! There will also be an educational section geared towards you and deepening your understanding of these vulnerable communities so that you can carry these stories home and help to continue to advocate for them long after you leave if you feel drawn to.
Accommodation & Cuisine
We will be staying in a boutique hotel in the city of Kochi. The hotel has a roof top pool and is snuggled along a small quiet street just off of the main area which is easily walkable through the artsy city full of history.
In Cheri Beach we will be staying in beautiful bungalows facing the famous backwaters and a short walk to the beach. We will have aryuvedic treatments and enjoy sunsets over the ocean.
No day will be complete without a dose of traditional Indian culture; look forward to sari shopping in the bustling marketplaces, and exploring ancient temples, palaces and mausoleums. Please note that all excursions are optional and although we do provide a fun-filled schedule we will always do our best to accommodate your wishes.
Optional journaling, meditation and yoga practice will provide solace and reflection to the days well served.
